It's time for our annual Pumpkin Carving Contest!

We will hold our annual pumpkin decorating contest at this Pack Meeting! Have fun with your son and carve/dress up/decorate your best pumpkin! Bring your completed pumpkin to the meeting and Scouts will vote for their favorite overall pumpkin and prizes will be awarded for the 3 best overall pumpkins. It might be a good idea to talk with your son before the meeting about being a good sport (not everyone will win, but it's more about having fun decorating/carving your pumpkin and seeing what creative ideas others came up with.) This year we will also bring back certificates for a variety of categories.

Please be sure to allow your son to do the majority of the work (as is appropriate for their age) decorating his pumpkin...this isn't meant to be a contest for the parents! :) A reminder: no flames are allowed in the parish hall, so if you want to illuminate your work of pumpkin art, please use a flameless candle.

This year's Pumpkin Carving Contest will award certificates in the following categories:
  • Most colorful
  • Best use of non-pumpkin materials
  • Scariest
  • Best Sports
  • Best use of detail
  • Most creative
  • Most patriotic
  • Best scouting theme
  • Silliest
  • Best Tiger/Wolf/Bear/Webelo
  • Best overall 1, 2, 3 (voted by scouts) 
Please arrive early to set up your pumpkin. Judging will begin at the start of the meeting. Also, Pack 97 t-shirts will be distributed at this meeting.

Our Character Connection Theme this month is Responsibility and the Pumpkin Carving Contest may provide a great opportunity to talk to your boys in advance about the responsibility of being good winners and good losers. Please also review the Family and Scout Guidelines for Pack Meetings. 


Den Responsibilities

Den 6 Set up
  • Move any tables, chairs as necessary.
  • Set out trash barrel.
  • Put up any necessary sign ins, posters.
  • Help set up any equipment, set up Info table, etc.
 6:30pm - 6:45pm
Den 11 Greeters
  • Greet Scouts/Parents "Good Evening, Welcome to our Pack meeting." 
  • Give any specific instructions (sign ups, etc.).
  • Hand out Newsletters to Scouts/Parents.
 6:30pm - 6:45pm
Dens 5 & 12 Flag Bearers (Enter)
  • Take flags out of closet and assemble.
  • Den Leader will call orders.
  • Scouts bring flags in, 
  • Lead Pledge of Allegiance, 
  • Sing song.
 6:45pm - 7:00pm
    Den 4 Song/Skit
    • First Den will prepare a song and/or skit for the Pack that has to do with the theme for the month. 
    • The second Den can provide a more entertaining skit, or may do one that has to do with the theme. 
    • Den Leader to provide guidance to boys and prepare in Den Meeting.
    		 7:15pm - 7:30pm 
    Dens 8 & 3 Flag Bearers (Exit)
    • Den Leader will call orders.
    • Scouts retire flags.
    • Put flags and flag stands away in the closet.
    		 7:45pm - 8:00pm
    Dens 7 & 3 Clean up
    • Sweep the hall floor.
    • Take out trash.
    • Check bathrooms to ensure they are clean, flushed, no trash.
    • Put any tables chairs out (if necessary).
    • Ensure hall is in excellent shape before leaving.
