We are once again organizing a Hopkinton town wide Cub Scout Sleepover.

Battleship Cove's Nautical Nights Program include a knot tying class, storyteller, living history presenter, major motion pictures, and Morse Code class. The trip has enabled the scouts to better understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by veterans of all military branches in all wars. http://www.battleshipcove.org/overnights.asp

Cost

Adults - $55 (Each scout is required to have at least one parent attend.)
Scouts - $15

For this trip the Pack will be funding a portion of the scouts tickets (normally $55) in order to be consistent with the approach of the other two Packs. While each Pack is subsidizing the scout tickets, the subsidy may vary from Pack to Pack depending on their finances and programming plans for the year. For example, one Pack has a much higher wreath sale minimum (each scout must sell a minimum of 25 wreaths which provides them with a stronger cash position). Our Pack Committee has chosen to keep our wreath minimum lower, at 15 wreaths. This volume allows us to operate our Pack and pay for regular operating expenses, but not typically finance scout overnights such as this. The Committee has also historically wanted to spend finances on things that will benefit ALL scouts, not just those who are able to go on overnight trips.

We currently have 50 spaces reserved for Pack 97 and these usually fill fast. Please RSVP to Jo Greystone by phone (617-312-5767) or email (jogreystone@comcast.net). Checks are due by the next Pack Meeting on Thursday, January 17th. These spaces will fill quickly, so please respond asap so that it may give us time to request additional spaces if necessary.

We will see the USS Massachusetts, a famous World War II Battleship of the U.S. Navy, permanently moored on the water in Fall River, Massachusetts. For those of us, who made the trip a few years ago, we can tell you the kids love it and both the parents and kids will never forget it. In addition to being able to tour and sleep on the Massachusetts, tours at no extra cost are available of the nearby docked destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., submarine Lionfish, PT Boats the 617 & 796.

Battleship Cove serves as the Commonwealth's official memorial for Massachusetts citizens of all militarybranches who lost their lives in World War II, and the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf conflicts, and most recently, the Commonwealth's victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Preserving five National Historic Landmark naval vessels, Battleship Cove also delivers educational programs that expose a national audience of 60,000 youths to a mission that promotes duty, honor and country.
